What is academic coaching?
Sometimes the problem isn't understanding the material. A student may know what to do but struggle with organizing, planning, studying, or getting started.
Academic coaching can help students develop skills such as:
Organization
Time management
Planning and prioritizing
Study strategies
Managing assignments and deadlines
Breaking large tasks into manageable steps
Self-advocacy
Independent learning habits
The long-term goal is greater independence—not lifelong dependence on a tutor.
How often should tutoring occur?
There isn't one schedule that works for every student.
Many students benefit from meeting once per week. Others may benefit from more frequent sessions when preparing for an important exam, catching up academically, or working toward a specific short-term goal.
We can determine an appropriate schedule based on the student's individual needs.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens.
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice when cancelling or rescheduling whenever possible.
For complete information regarding cancellations, missed sessions, packages, payments, and refunds, please see the Tutoring Policies page.
What ages and grade levels do you work with?
Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.
I work with students across a range of grade levels. Because every learner has different needs, I consider the student's current skills, goals, and the type of support they're seeking rather than relying on grade level alone.
Contact me if you'd like to discuss whether The Learning Heart would be a good fit for your student.
Do you offer ACT and SAT preparation?
Yes. Test preparation is individualized according to the student's strengths and areas for improvement.
Sessions may address reading, English and language skills, mathematics, pacing, test-taking strategies, and targeted practice
How long is a tutoring session?
Standard tutoring and academic-coaching sessions are 60 minutes.
How much does tutoring cost?
Individual sessions are $50 for 60 minutes.
I also offer introductory and multi-session packages for families who would like ongoing support.
Please visit the Services & Pricing page for current pricing and package options.
Can parents communicate with you about their student's progress?
Yes.
I value collaboration with parents and guardians and welcome relevant information that can help me better support a student. I'm also happy to discuss progress, concerns, and possible next steps.
You can begin by booking a session or contacting me to tell me a little about what you're looking for.
If you're unsure which service would be the best fit, that's okay. We can discuss your student's needs and determine an appropriate place to start.
How do we get started?
Do you work with students with learning disabilities or IEPs?
We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart.
Absolutely.
I have extensive experience as a special education teacher and hold a Master of Education in Special Education. I believe students learn in different ways, and instruction should be adapted to the learner rather than expecting every student to learn the same way.
Tutoring can also complement skills and goals a student is working on through an IEP or other school-based supports.
Do I have to purchase a package?
No.
Families can schedule individual sessions without making a long-term commitment. Packages are simply an option for families who want regular tutoring at a reduced per-session rate.
What happens during the first session?
The first session isn't just about jumping into an assignment.
I want to learn about the student's strengths, challenges, goals, and experiences with school. We'll also begin working on the areas for which the student is seeking support.
As I get to know the student and how they learn, sessions become increasingly individualized.
Can you guarantee better grades or higher test scores?
No tutor can ethically guarantee a particular grade, standardized-test score, or other academic outcome.
What I can provide is individualized instruction, preparation, encouragement, and consistent support designed to help students strengthen their skills and become more confident, independent learners.
